Tasting Notes June 13, 2015

Here's Saturday's lineup:

San de Guilhelm Gascogne Blanc $10.49
This wine is a zesty and lively white wine with a nose of white fruits and a clean, crisp finish. The assemblage is mostly Colombard with Gros Manseng and a little Ugni Blanc added for freshness and delicacy.

Famille Perrin Ventoux Rosé $10.99
Perrin Ventoux Rosé has everything you would expect from a good rosé wine. Fruit, freshness and a beautiful colour. Ideal as an aperitif or with a meal amongst friends. The grapes mature slowly and maintain a good acidity level. The wine is rich, fresh and balanced.

Grayson Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon $13.49
The Grayson Cabernet Sauvignon shows a dark ruby color with a rich nose of blackberry, raspberries and hints of black pepper. This intense Cabernet is full of artful fruit, provides a round mouth feel and a soft lingering finish with hints of toasted French oak.

Ateca Atteca $17.99
This 100% Garnacha possess rich Morello cherry and plum flavors are accented by mint, orange peel and sassafras notes in this expressive red, which has soft tannins, juicy acidity and smoky finish.

Goats Do Roam White $13.49
Floral notes of peach blossom. Light apricot with pear drops on the palate. A rich palate balanced well by fruit driven freshness. This South African white is comprised of 56% Viognier, 24% Roussanne and 20% Grenache Blanc.

Annabella Chardonnay $15.49
A light golden straw color and ripe aromas of fresh lemon custard and sweet tangerine aromas with a hint of Tahitian vanilla and a touch of clove spice. The palate enters with luscious tropical fruit notes and bold yet balanced acid profile.

Goats Do Roam Red $13.49
Bright ruby in the glass, fresh berry aromas layered with subtle spice and smoky notes. Light to medium bodied with young juicy berry flavors, fine integrated oak and smooth tannins; a beautifully balanced wine with a soft finish. This red South African wine is comprised of 61% Syrah, 16% Cinsault, 12% Mourvedre, 5% Grenache, 4% Carignan and 2% Petite Syrah.

Loosen Up Dornfelder $12.49
What do you get when you cross the world famous winemaker Ernst Loosen with surf and skateboard artists the Froelich brothers? The answer is a fruity and provocative red wine from the Dornfelder grape, which is the second-most planted red grape in Germany. Perfect for a night in, a night out, dinner with friends (or after they leave), barbecue or just to Loosen Up.

Tasting Notes May 30, 2015

Boy, do we have a spectacular tasting lined up for you this Saturday.

Nals Margreid Pinot Grigio $15.49
The mixed limestone and clay loam of the Penon Vineyard ensure the harmonious aroma of the wine. As its taste is characterized by a well-balanced acidity and a persisting full flavour, this wine can be perfectly combined with light starters and dishes with fish or white meat.

Elio Perrone Bigaro $18.99
Elio Perrone Bigaro is a blend of Moscato and Brachetto. A translucent ruby in color, the Brachetto not only gives the wine its beautiful color, but it shifts the flavors from tropical fruits in the direction of red fruits.

Finca Sandoval Signo Bobal $21.99
This delicious wine is made with the most typically native Manchuela variety, from an old vineyard planted in 1939, and a small proportion (around 10%) of Syrah. It has a gorgeous bouquet of dark cherries, boysenberry and briary that is very well-defined and expands with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. It is a tightly controlled, focused Bobal with good backbone and a clean, fresh, almost broody finish that is very appealing.

Fairview Pinotage $19.49
Dark purple in the glass, smoky notes with intense dark fruit aromas, framed by oak spice. Fleshy dark fruit continue on the palate with firm tannins and lingering flavors of spice and dark coffee.

Vida Sparkling Chardonnay $13.99
This elegant sparkling wine was created from selected, organically grown grapes from the Zuccardi vineyards. It is fresh, lively and enticing, enjoy!

Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc $23.49
The wine has lifted aromatics with peach and juicy citrus notes underscored with passion fruit. The palate is elegant and restrained with peach combining beautifully with the citrus flavors and fresh acidity. The wine lingers long in the mouth, with inherent minerality.

Castano Monastrell Rosè $10.99
This 100% Monastrell from the Castano range is well balanced and a concentrated wine with the pure taste of the finest grapes from Spain, grown in high altitude old vineyards on limestone soils.

Avive Natural Peach Sparkling Wine $11.99
Fresh and crisp, with a splash of sweetness. Perfect as an apéritif or alongside casual fare. Makes a great spring and summer sipping wine or a great gift for the sweet wine drinker in your life.

Pikes Clare Valley Riesling $13.49
Typically fresh and bright displaying layers of lemon/lime zest, tropical fruit and subtle nuances of mineral and wet slate. Fresh, crisp and dry, the palate is loaded with all the lemon/lime/slate mentioned above. These are all tightly woven around a core of bright acidity providing length and drive to the soft, dry finish.

Avignonesi Cantaloro Toscana $18.49
A blend of Italian and international varieties, this wine displays rich, yet fragrant fruity aromas, intertwined with notes of Mediterranean herbs and subtle spicy hints. A very versatile, young red wine, Cantaloro can be enjoyed as an aperitif, served slightly cold, or paired with cold cuts, vegetable pasta dishes, soups, poultry and fresh cheeses.

G.D. Vajra Langhe Rosso $16.49
A hue of violet red. Aromas of red fruits, plums, underbrush as well as  oral and spicy fragrances intrigue your senses from the very  first moment. A nice correspondence on the palate where hints of almond, black pepper and Asian spices come together for a nice refreshing  finish.
